Each and every member of our staff is dedicated to assisting each resident on their own unique path to sobriety. From our resident advisors to our program director, we all view residents as the individuals they are, and offer them our greatest care. Our mission, as a staff, is to offer residents suffering from substance dependence the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in recovery from which they can build a life free of alcohol and drugs.

Wanda Smith - Executive Director
Wanda Smith has been the Executive Director for Native Horizons Treatment Centre for the past 35 years. Her career in the field of First Nations addictions has spanned 45 years in various positions from Community Youth Counsellor, Six Nations; Native Addictions Program Teaching Master, Northern College, Timmins; Southern Ontario Zone & Regional NNADAP Consultant (Ottawa) and Executive Director for White Buffalo Youth Treatment Centre, Sturgeon Lake, SK.

Verna Johnson - Administrator
Verna Johnson is Turtle Clan from the Cayuga Nation at Six Nations of the Grand River. Verna has been working in administration for over 20 years and has developed strong work skills that include adaptability, dependability, team player, and in communications with extensive experience in office management. Verna is a highly approachable individual with a pleasant attitude and has a desire to make a positive impact.

Claudette Mitten - Program Supervisor
Claudette is Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation. Her lifelong Godriho:t duties to Ganohgwatro Longhouse, has helped her and her family, follow the ways of our cultural teachings. For 28 years Claidi has held different capacities and currently, as the ‘Program Supervisor’. Claidi has been recognized as a ‘Certified Indigenous Clinical Supervisor in Addictions’ for her dedication in the areas of Trauma, Suicide, Addictions, and Mental Health.

Anthony Henhawk - Communications
Anthony Henhawk is a Mohawk with an entrepreneurial, progressive creative communications spirit. Motivated with a passion for all things artistic. Anthony has over 10 years of creative design and communications experience from previous roles in public exhibitions, animation, screenplay writing and producing, video game development, art concepts and design, corporate/sales communications, and knowledge management systems.

Jay R. Jonathan - Program/Cultural
Delbert (Jay R) Jonathan is Turtle clan from the Mohawk Nation. He is the Program/Cultural Team Lead at Native Horizons Treatment Centre. Delbert has spent over a decade at NHTC committed to walking alongside individuals working through addictions and trauma. He uses multiple informed approaches and cultural connections to assist in helping people to achieve their own desired wellness. Delbert is known for being personable, knowledgeable and dedicated in his role.

Tammy General - Wellness Mentor
Sge:no, Tammy General is Snapping Turtle clan of the Seneca Nation. Tammy is openminded to the unique factor each individual possesses, as a key, to discovering their own healing path. Tammy is known for her adaptability to many situations and is always willing to help and encourage those in need to the best of her abilities. Tammy continues to learn and follow our traditional ways with a Good Mind and Compassion for Health in many aspects.

Donna Henry - Wellness Mentor
Donna has a compassion for humanity and has personal goals to achieve fluency in Mohawk language and wishes to travel to Elder Conferences. Donna has training through The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation. Donna has a fun sense of humor and makes friends wherever she travels. Donna benefits from working at Native Horizons Treatment Centre through working on herself first which she continues to do daily.

Sherlene Bomberry - Outreach Worker
Sge:no! Ewehehe:wi/Sherlene Bomberry, Wolf Clan, Cayuga Nation of the Six Nations of the Grand River. Sherlene has been fostering and enhancing her personal and professional growth since she took off her coat of shame and guilt that she wore since childhood. Times when her spirit needed understanding. She is grateful for all the people, places, and things that were put into my path.

Melanie Fraser - Wellness Mentor
Melanie is part of The Six Nations Territory and is Mud Turtle clan of the Mohawk Nation. Melanie holds specialized training in Addiction’s counselling through Nechi. She is able to easily combine her skill sets with others working with her team to maximize strengths to better serve the clients. It is important for her to guide and lift their spirits.

Linda General - Finance
Linda is a mother, grandmother and a great friend! She has kept Native Horizons financially accountable for the last 19 years. Her gentle, friendly demeanor is refreshing to staff and clients alike. She enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family; golf; travel and being by the water with a good book.

Dorothy Henry - Kitchen Manager
Dorothy has been the Kitchen Manager for Native Horizons Treatment Centre for 17 years. She is from Six Nations, Lower Mohawk, Bear Clan. She is also a wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies are cooking, baking and organic gardening. She loves her job and the interaction with our clients. Clients often return home with a little bit more weight from her awesome cooking!

Greg Henry - Maintenance
Greg has been with Native Horizons Treatment Centre as our Maintenance Worker for 20 years. He is from Six Nations, Lower Mohawk, Turtle Clan. He is a husband, father and Grand Pooh-Ba. His hobbies are cutting grass, hunting, cutting grass, and helping others. And did we say cutting grass? Greg works hard keeping our property amazingly manicured!
